So much snow in Indiana! Unfortunately, it doesn't look quite this ethereal when it's piled in slushy mounds... and I feel that it's not as peaceful either (since I just spent the evening digging out my roommate's car and my own with a cafeteria tray...)
Still beautiful, however.
In this piece I endeavored to push my values and thus create a definite focal point. I think I'm becoming more comfortable with rendered vs. non-rendered areas too.

Happy Birthday Pollock (1/28)
My own rendition... an exhilarating exercise, and not as
completely haphazard as one would think.

whimsical abstract.

The rough texture of the paper definitely shows up in this one -
successful in this piece I think but difficult to work with in others.

A study in antithesis... how many can you name? I was unhappy with the first wash of salmon and pink, so I gently rubbed that off with a paper towel which left an interesting texture. That provided a unique foundation for the washes of violet, yellow, blue, and green... I think I'll repeat that "mistake" in the future.

Roommates.

A hint of coffee stain and green logo.
How much can I remove and still communicate?

Same straightforward view... experimentation with washes and light shading. I may be afraid of saturation, as my watercolors tend to be consistently (too?) light.

These first paintings are of my chosen "evocative object".
The ordinary object reminds me of...
dear friends, laughter, shared tears, profound conversations, procrastination, roadtrips to chicago, first dates, beautiful mosaics, running away, impromptu art
...so much held in a simple paper cup
